MacHale & Harmelin

MacHale and Harmelin are active in Basel’s early music scene. For years, the two musicians have specialized in historically informed performance practice, with the aim of bringing this music into the here and now, making it come alive and breathe.

In this project in particular, the two musicians push beyond the boundaries of the early music world, exploring and giving voice to all the genres that have influenced them. This is not fusion for fusion’s sake, but rather the natural result of a long-term musical journey shaped by eclectic influences.

Thus, Chopin meets Bossa Nova, while Fauré encounters the soundscape of the 17th century. Jazz-inflected sounds also come to the fore, alongside original compositions by both musicians, which bring together elements from this diverse range of musical languages.
